Employee Relations Specialist - Surrey

This role sits within a specialised area that promotes and protects the firm's reputation by building the its capacity for ethical behaviour and its capability to comply with externally defined laws and regulations, the Code of Conduct and related group standards.

This function works closely with business segments and functions across the company - helping line managers to fulfil their accountability for making sure that the high performance they aspire to is achieved ethically and within the boundaries of compliance. To address specific business issues the department coaches, trains and provides practical tools and solutions to mitigate their risks.

Role:

- Undertake fit-for-purpose investigations into concerns raised of alleged breaches of Code of Conduct
- Undertake routine investigations, sometimes as an individual or as a member of a small team, into issues such as fair treatment, equal opportunities, bullying and harassment, and other employee-related issues covered by Code of Conduct
- Produce investigation plans, determining who needs to be interviewed and what relevant documentary evidence to obtain, outlining the steps, sequence, timing and resources required to reach a successful conclusion
- Ensure all investigations are conducted in accordance with the Investigation Guidelines, using judgement to ensure the scale of effort is appropriate to the case and that it is completed in a timely manner
- Liaise with other specialists, including Legal, Security, Audit, Safety and Regulatory, as necessary to ensure the effective conduct of all investigations and the protection of legal privilege
- Plan and conduct interviews with subjects and witnesses, with the objectives of testing allegations, uncovering relevant facts and making judgements about the value of conflicting evidence
- Maintain all records and case evidence securely and confidentially, in accordance with data privacy and digital security standards
- Prepare relevant and comprehensive reports, with succinct management summaries and appropriate appendices
- Advise the Case Manager, Regional Ombudsperson and, when necessary, decision makers in determining their response to the outcomes of an investigation, including promoting the Group Disciplinary Guidelines

Person:

- Significant proven experience of Employee Relations gained within a global blue chip company
- Degree educated or equivalent, ideally complemented by relevant studies, eg CIPD, studies relating to ER and employment law
- Thorough understanding of employee-related issues, from experience of dealing with a wide range of grievance, disciplinary and performance capability cases
- Strong experience in conducting investigations
- Ability to hold difficult conversations and deliver sensitive messages to employees at all levels
- Determination to seek solutions to complex issues and not be put off by challenges or setbacks
- Excellent verbal communication skills, to summarise case issues and progress, and to ask clear questions in investigation interviews
- Ability to keep accurate written notes of meetings and write clear reports
